Specle Studio Coming Soon

At the end of this month, Specle will announce a new product called Specle Studio. Specle Studio is the product of the culmination of all our knowledge of pre-press and agency workflows. It seamlessly connects together production from media schedule through to delivery to publication in a way that has never been seen before.

Specle has been working with closely VCCP to pilot the technology. VCCP is already using Specle Studio to produce and deliver all their work - including every ad for easyJet.

Display your iPad specs on Specle.

Digital and online publishing is growing at the rate of knots, with more online publications joining the market every week. 2012 is set to be a huge year for the increase of 'digital editions',with the majority of big name publishers expanding their portfolios into online publications.

Booking URL's Panel at Digital Ad Lab.

Last month our CTO, Tom, chaired a panel at the Digital Ad Lab forum. There was a great turn out at the Groucho Club in Soho and the topics talked about brought about lots of discussion. 

Tom gave an introduction to the increasing use of booking URLs to streamline the process between booking an ad to delivery, whilst creating a set of metadata to accompany the file determining which job it belongs to and what has happened to it along the way. He was joined on the panel by Andy Gladden from Wellcom, Darron Barker from E Graphics, Dean Wilson from UK Metro and Mike Hoy from Papermule.

A lively discussion followed with highlights including:

• Associated went live using booking URLs in first quarter of 2011.  Typically 65% of copy comes from the same sender and a typical newspaper takes ads from 500 different agencies.  Therefore any improvement in the workflow is of huge benefit.
• At present booking URL’s relate more to newspapers as the magazine industry has been slower on the uptake.
• Are we going to end up with a WAM!NET/Vio situation with lots of vendors offering booking URL’s and delivery methods with no synergy?  Specle has tried to overcome this by working very closely with other vendors so users can choose which delivery process they would like to use and utilising GWG fields.
• Cost saving benefits are to the publisher.
• Is URN the right terminology, as it means other things in other industries?
• When Metro started using booking URL’s the increase of usage went from 2-25% in a matter of months.
• There is still an issue about making and submitting ads correctly.  Should there be a guide for doing this?  I have liaised with PPA and their guidelines are available via http://www.ppa.co.uk/resources/guides-and-standards/production/pass4press/

DPS display and delivery on Specle!

At Specle, we like to keep all of our publishers fresh up to date with any changes or advances we make to the spec pages.

As of Monday 28th November 2011, we changed the way DPS adverts are displayed and delivered. 

It used to be that DPS ads could either be sent as one large file or provided as two separate files which had to be uploaded separately as two different transactions. 

All DPS specifications now allow the customer to view the individual spec for each side of a DPS(left and right page) by clicking on the new 'Show the Specs for each page' link. 

We have developed this option to make the specification information clearer and have made the delivery method easier. 

This drops down to show each spec. This will hopefully make creating an ad far simpler and will avoid sizing issues at later stages. 

Once the customer has created the PDF files and they're ready to send, they can click 'Send Ad' and select Specle Send as a delivery option.

If the publisher requires the ad as two separate files they will have the option to upload each file to the same job ticket. 

The delivery charge for each file remains the same. Each file is £3 for successful delivery, so the total of one DPS transaction where files are supplied separately, will cost £6 +VAT.

Publishers that require artwork to be supplied as one PDF will remain the same, however, they will have the link with the drop down in order to see the spec size for each page. 

The delivery price for one PDF file is still just £3, whatever its size.

We have also improved the search optimisation of publications and publishers. Find the titles that you're looking for easier and faster. Type the name you are looking for into the search bar and use the selective autocomplete drop down to find the required page.
